Share your pathetic zoetis rep story.....

Today I followed my zoetis rep into an account that switched to me a few months ago. He must have been desperate because when the doctor invited me back after he left the doctor was laughing at how pathetic he was...... Said his manager was after him due to losing the business, mind you he is "key" accounts rep, he then went on to say that zoetis had the most advanced lepto on the market and put the most into R&D for lepto too.... All others were just saying they did. Cute! Lucky he wasn't waiting outside because I was gonna offer him a tissue! I wonder what phase of training zoetis teaches the sympathy sales call.... Get a life loser!

And as for zoetis having the most advanced lepto... If that's the case then why does your detailer reference the Moore study for safety when your vaccine wasn't even used in it?

Goodbye Emails

Has anyone noticed that these company-wide "I'm leaving" emails are becoming more and more frequent? Thanking the company (for what, who knows) and then letting them know they're moving on. I sure hope I'm able to join that list of people jumping ship soon. This company is getting worse and worse by the day and there are more and more idiots working in sales and at the corporate headquarters. There are a lot of changes coming and I don't want to be here to find out what they are.

Good Morning, Merck!

It's a new day, just like yesterday once was and tomorrow soon will be. On this new day, just as yesterday, I intend to find as many ways as humanly possible to transfer merck's resources to to myself and others (my favorite caterers) while doing absolutely nothing to promote the God-awful products that are in my bag. After all, I have my own products to sell!

THE REAL QUESTION IS…

When are the Alpha reps going to start talking about Brintellix, let alone selling it??? I know they were told to concentrate on AM, but my God, they are getting bonus off our efforts solely!! It's time they started pulling their weight with Brintellix.

THE REAL QUESTION IS…

TIME TO MOVE ON!!!

Folks lets face it, if the two sides were close enough to an agreement and Allergan wasn't catching as much heat from their investors; we would by now know our fate as an organization. No matter how quite it has been at home office there is no doubt that someone or something would have triggered all us of at least a slight hint that a deal has been reached by now. Just was not to be and we should all stop wondering when and accepting the reality.

Abbvie Might Walk Away From Shire Deal

From Bloomberg....

AbbVie Inc. (ABBV) is examining plans to raise additional financing to complete its takeover of Shire Plc (SHP), after U.S. officials imposed new obstacles to so-called tax inversion deals, people with knowledge of the matter said.

AbbVie may seek to borrow as much as $7 billion more than it originally anticipated because of new restrictions on using cash held offshore, two of the people said, asking not to be identified discussing a private matter. The deliberations are at an early stage, and are part of a comprehensive review of the Shire transaction’s structure after U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew announced measures to make inversions more difficult this week, the people said.

President Barack Obama’s administration is looking at ways to halt a wave of acquisitions that allow U.S. companies to move their legal address overseas, potentially eroding the corporate tax base. The rules imposed this week, which Lew said are within the powers of the executive branch to enact without Congressional legislation, will make it more difficult for U.S. companies to finance inversion deals by using cash they hold overseas, beyond the reach of American taxes. While offshore money can still be used under the new regulations, it would be subject to a 35 percent tax rate.

No final decision on how to proceed has been made by AbbVie, which is still waiting for details on how the Treasury rules will be implemented and examining several scenarios, the people said. The company is working with advisers to gauge the cost of any increased borrowing, as well as its impact on credit ratings and the deal overall, one of the people added.

A spokeswoman for AbbVie said in an e-mail that rumors of AbbVie seeking additional financing are untrue. She declined to comment on whether the company would stand by the deal or walk away. A spokeswoman for Shire declined to comment.

AbbVie is still committed to completing the $55 billion merger, the people said. In addition to tax benefits, AbbVie would get Shire’s drugs for attention-deficit disorder and rare diseases, diversifying its own portfolio.

The measures announced by Lew on Sept. 22 impose curbs on loans or cash transfers from offshore subsidiaries to a new foreign parent -- which AbbVie would create by setting up a U.K.-domiciled company after buying Shire. The headline rate of tax on U.S. corporate earnings is 40 percent, compared with 21 percent in the U.K.

AbbVie, which is based in North Chicago, Illinois, hasn’t disclosed how much offshore cash it intended to use to finance the Shire purchase. As of the second quarter of this year, the company held about $10.2 billion in cash and equivalents, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, which analysts, including Jeffrey Holford at Jefferies LLC in New York, estimate is mostly held outside the U.S.

The overall impact of the new U.S. rules on inversion deals isn’t yet clear. Pfizer Inc. (PFE), the largest U.S. drugmaker, is still seeking acquisition targets that would allow it to move out of the U.S., and recently approached Actavis Plc (ACT) about a combination, people familiar with the matter said earlier this week. Canadian coffee-and-doughnuts chain Tim Hortons Inc. (THI), which is being acquired by Burger King Worldwide Inc. (BKW) in an inversion merger, has said the deal will proceed despite the restrictions.

So far, the U.S. has stopped short of targeting the most lucrative elements of inversion deals such as so-called “earnings stripping,” which allows companies to lower taxable U.S. profits by shifting them to foreign subsidiaries. Attempts to introduce stricter measures may have to wait for comprehensive tax reform legislation in Congress, where Republicans and Democrats have been unable to agree on a way forward.

Fast-Acting Erectile Dysfunction Pill Gets FDA OK

Thursday, September 18, 2014 08:26 AM

An erectile dysfunction drug that reduces by half the time patients need to take the pill before sexual activity has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Developed by Auxilium Pharmaceuticals Inc and Vivus Incs, the drug, Stendra, is the first FDA-approved erectile dysfunction drug that can be taken about 15 minutes prior to sexual activity.

Pfizer Inc's blockbuster erectile dysfunction drug, Viagra, can be taken about an hour before sex.

Editor's Note: Prostate Cancer Is Almost Epidemic - Prevent It

Stendra, first approved in 2012, is available in multiple dosages (50 mg, 100 mg and 200 mg tablets) and may be taken with or without food and moderate alcohol consumption (up to three drinks), the companies said on Thursday.

It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, which are used to help increase blood flow to the penis.

Vivus owns the worldwide development and commercial rights to Stendra for use in sexual dysfunction, with the exception of certain Asian countries in the Pacific Rim.

Auxilium has exclusive marketing rights to Stendra in the United States and Canada, while Sanofi SA holds a license to commercialize it in Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, and the Commonwealth of Independent States including Russia.

The drug is sold as Spedra in the European Union.

Auxilium said on Wednesday it would not withdraw its offer to buy Canadian eye drug maker QLT Inc and adopted a poison pill, a day after receiving an unsolicited buyout offer from Endo International Plc.

Actavis will buy Pfizer after Salix and Allergan deals are struck

Actavis is looking to buy up Salix AND Allergan to make themselves a bigger company to purchase Pfizer, since tax inversion cannot be struck. That's right, we will be the largest pharmaceutical company in the world when all is said and done. Enjoy the ride, it will be bumpy at times, but we will prevail.

Even with Tax Inversion, the Pfizer thing was unlikely to happen...too heavily focused on the generics..hated to burst your bubbles but the pfizer thing was never going to happen...too heavily focused on the generics still and the value isn't there for Pfizer. AZ still the favorite..maybe GSK. could be wrong but I am a FSR1 rep and that makes me smarter than most…if Pfizer can't purchase AZ or GSK, we will buy them after we buy Salix and Allergan.

Deirdre's This is War Comment

I'm one who never gets to upset and pretty much goes with the flow. However when I was alerted to DC's comment in the WSJ of "this is war" I about lost it. How can someone who has reached her position be so out of touch with reality?

We have GSK employees whose lives have been ever changed due to injury or post traumatic stress syndrome of a family member. How in the world does that relate to the pharma world. Maybe that was your position at Lilly but here at GSK we were always about putting the patient and our employees first. That was until you came along.

While I'm so upset about the GSK family that you so disrupted I cannot get over your lack of professionalism and your poor choice of words to once again move your agenda forward.

DC you owe many GSK employees and their families and apology for such a comment. I've been in this industry for a long time. Not once did the idea of WAR ever cross any of our minds when it came to our jobs.

Go talk to family members who have spouses and children who are and have participated in a real WAR before you make such an inconsiderate comment.

No wonder GSK US is failing so miserably. All anyone had to do is look at our senior leader who implemented her agenda which has failed miserably.

DC how dare you compare a pharma job to what our brave military men and woman do everyday.

I've always lived by what have you done today to feel proud? DC can you tell us what your proud of? I dare u to go take a PF test and get a scorecard that makes no sense.

Really pharma being compared to WAR?

T Rowe Price Calls for Meeting- Urges Shareholder Vote

September 26, 2014, 2:40 P.M. ET

.

T.Rowe Calls For Shareholder Vote On Allergan’s Plans Too

By Teresa Rivas

Late Thursday, Pentwater Capital Management publicly denounced Allergan’s (AGN) potential acquisition of Salix Pharmaceuticals (SLXP) without a shareholder vote. The firm joins activist investor Bill Ackman, who has also threatened a lawsuit if Allergan doesn’t give shareholders a voice about acquisition, which he opposes, preferring instead to have Allergan bought by Valeant Pharmaceuticals (VRX).

Now T. Rowe Price (TROW) is also coming out against the move. In a statement released this afternoon the firm said it has been watching the actions of Allergan’s board “with growing concern”:

In our view, the issues to be voted on at the special meeting of shareholders on December 18 are of such importance that they impose a special duty on the Board to refrain from approving any significant, irreversible commitments by the company between now and then unless shareholders are offered the opportunity to vote on them. We believe this should apply even in the event of all-cash acquisitions that do not ordinarily require a shareholder vote.

Although Salix isn’t named, presumably the “any significant, irreversible commitments” language likely refers to the firm, as Allergan was said to be planning an all-cash offer.

Final Payout...?

I voluntarily left MNK on August 22nd, rather than waiting around to get "laid off". I am still waiting for my last paycheck, over a month later. I refuse to get closed out until I am paid the money I am legally owed. I called HR twice and told them I will not return their electronics and other stuff until I am paid. No one answered the phone or called me back. I filed a wage claim today, which places a financial penalty on MNK for each day I have not been paid, because there is no just cause for non-payment. I am wondering if any other former reps are experiencing the same. BTW, I didn't have a car to turn in as it was in an accident a week before I quit.

VTP- can we talk money? ARI

Hi:

So..my lump sum seems huge...but I think they are taking 40% taxes. And my understanding is that I am not getting my stocks NOW but in the future when they vest and only the ones vest prior to April 2015. On my breakdown I did not see the pay for the vacation time that they said they were paying out. Does anyone know how that will be paid? In a separate check? Actually I can ask HR..but I figured a new topic and maybe I will learn something else I don't know. Are people rolling over their 401Ks or leaving them?

In Rhode Island we can apply for unemployment today. I heard that we should do that within 5 days of leaving (just a reminder).

Reduction in separation pay formula

The current separation pay policy is 2 weeks for every full year of service with certain minimums depending on the position classification. The next shoe to drop following the changes to retirement medical and the pension is a change in this policy to one week for every full year of service. With the upcoming RIF's, mergers, and divestitures, J&J is seeing viewing their policy as overly competitive and will need to reduce the costs associated with upcoming changes in 2015. Be prepared that the financial bridge provided while you seek other employment will not be as generous as it once was. Welcome to the new J&J.

Did Someone say Kickbacks? HHS Warns About Medicare Part D Coupons

Brand-name drug makers regularly use coupons to woo consumers and boost sales. But inducing Medicare Part D beneficiaries to use coupons is illegal. So drug makers are supposed to use safeguards to ensure these consumers do not use coupons to obtain prescription medicines.

But a new report finds the efforts are lacking. As many as 7% of seniors report using coupons to purchase prescription drugs, which amounts to some 2 million people relying on coupons when they should not be able to do so. There are about 36 million Medicare Part D beneficiaries.

The implication is that Medicare is paying too much for some medicines. Why? Coupons may increase costs if these encourage consumers to purchase more expensive brand-name drugs instead of lower-cost generics. Brand-name drug makers, you may recall, have been increasingly relying on coupons to sustain market share.

The report, which was conducted by the Office of the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, did not provide an estimate of what coupons are costing Medicare. But the agency did note it is considered to be a kickback to entice consumers to use coupons to purchase medicines that are paid for by Medicare Part D or other federal health-care programs.

This sort of activity would constitute a kickback, which the OIG highlighted in a ‘special advisory bulletin’ issued late last week to remind drug makers and pharmacies. A spokeswoman for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the trade group for brand-name drug makers, says “we are in the process of reviewing the OIG report and special advisory bulletin on copayment coupon use.”

The OIG surveyed 30 drug makers that manufacture the top 100 Part D brand-name drugs for which coupons are offered and generate the highest Medicare expenditures. The agency also reviewed certain safeguards used by drug makers and interviewed staff at various organizations involved in pharmacy claims transactions.

So why is there a problem? For instance, the OIG found that nearly all of the coupons obtained had a printed notice, but only 80% had a comparable notice on the coupon web site. Moreover, 75% had an eligibility question online or over the phone. But only 3% had a tracking mechanism on their web sites to prevent a patient from changing an answer to the eligibility question to obtain the coupon.

Approximately two-thirds of the drug makers surveyed provided notices to pharmacists for at least one of the coupon formats they offer. Put another way, one third did not. And of those drug makers that did provide notices, the OIG found that of 40 coupons obtained and reviewed, 42% did not have notices with specific language directed to pharmacists. Pharmacists are busy and so added language can help.

Here is another inadequate feature of the coupons – the OIG found that manufacturer notices to patients and pharmacists “only communicate information stipulating the terms and conditions of copayment coupons. These notices cannot necessarily stop coupons from being processed to purchase drugs paid for by Federal health care programs,” the OIG report states.

Also, the behind-the-scenes method for processing insurance claims may not stop all coupons from being processed for drugs paid for by Medicare Part D because drug makers cannot accurately identify a consumer’s enrollment status. The reason is that drug makers use proxy data to identify Part D enrollees, since they are prohibited for privacy reasons from using actual data. But this is unreliable.

OIG recommends that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services find a way to work with drug makers to improve the reliability of pharmacy claims and verify enrollment. CMS should also explore ways to make coupons universally identifiable. The OIG got no argument from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service. In an attached reply, HHS Secretary Marilyn Tavenner agreed with all of the recommendations.

Time to cut the co-pay coupons, guys!

Forest to takeover Salix

That's right, not financially, but literally they will. Actavis just purchased Forest this year, but Forest took over Actavis. Forest management and reps were kept in favor of Actavis legacy reps and management. The Forest CEO is running the show and so on down, the Actavis/Forest acquisition became the "Forest dog-and-pony" show. I wanted to break the news to you all at Salix, this will happen to you to if you allow your leadership to get acquired by Allergan and then Actavis.

Salix management and reps should be worried because it will be Forest legacy running the show for all companies.

Forest to takeover Salix

News

Allergan, the Botox maker fending off a hostile bid by Valeant Pharmaceuticals and Pershing Square Capital Management, had had talks to acquire Salix Pharmaceuticals, another drug maker, according to people briefed on the matter.

If successful, Allergan’s acquisition of Salix would probably derail Valeant and Pershing Square’s $53 billion takeover attempt. It would also mean the end of Salix’s own deal to acquire Cosmo Technologies, the Irish unit of Cosmo Pharmaceuticals of Italy, in a tax inversion deal announced this summer.

But talks between Allergan and Salix continue and could still fall apart, these people said. One person briefed on the matter said the companies still had not come to terms.

And a deal would be a financial reach for Allergan. Salix has a market value of more than $10 billion, and its stock was up 16 percent in after-hours trading following a report in The Wall Street Journal about talks between the companies.

US unveils new rules to curb tax inversions

The US Treasury Department announced Monday that it is taking steps under five sections of the country's tax code to make inversions harder and less profitable to accomplish on deals finalised as of September 22. According to the department, the moves "will significantly diminish the ability of inverted companies to escape US taxation," adding that "inversions [will also] no longer make economic sense" to those companies considering mergers.

Specifically, the actions include blocking inverted companies from using so-called "hopscotch" loans to access a foreign subsidiary's earnings without paying US tax on it. Another move seeks to prevent US companies from restructuring their foreign units as a way to access overseas cash reserves tax-free, while yet another aims to close a loophole that currently allows them to transfer cash or property from a "controlled foreign corporation" to the new parent in order to avoid paying US tax.

"This action will significantly diminish the ability of inverted companies to escape US taxation," Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said. "For some companies considering deals, today's action will mean that inversions no longer make economic sense," he added.

Meanwhile, the Treasury Department said it will also make it more difficult for companies to invert by strengthening the requirement that the former owners of the US entity own less than 80 percent of the new combined company. Further, the department pledged to continue looking for other regulatory steps to reduce the benefits of inversions, as well as reviewing tax treaties and other international commitments.

In the wake of Pfizer's unsuccessful attempt to invert by acquiring UK-based AstraZeneca earlier this year, Lew asked Congress to approve tax changes retroactive to May in a bid to stop inversion deals. Last week, Horizon Pharma completed its acquisition of Vidara Therapeutics, which includes moving its corporate address to Ireland, while pending inversion deals include AbbVie's acquisition of Irish-based Shire, as well as a transaction between Mylan and Abbott under which Mylan will relocate to the Netherlands.

Losing the Pfizer Acct will end this place

They are THE stategic acct.

They are threatening to pull out of all studies if we don't turn things around.

We are pulling out all stops to do so. Pulling any needed resources away from other accts in order to do so.

It is a no-win situation.

If we save them, unlikely, then it is unsustainable as we can't afford to treat them, or anyone else, this way. And it sets a precedent that we can't afford.

If they leave, which they probably will, the stock tanks.

Big lay offs.

In the meantime things are as horrid as ever - 30% attrition and a nightmare of a corp culture.

BSX New Recall... lethal error

BSX just announced that 27,000 patients will be added to their existing recall of 20,000 patients. Yes, good ol error code 1003 veered its head again. This is the recall where the battery gas gauge appears full....but due to faulty capacitor, it is really empty. This causes a 1003 error code where the device needs to be replaced right away....because it is basically dead. So what is so sneaky about this? The failure occurs in about year 4 of the device. Every year when the device moves from year three to year 4....another expanding list of affected patients enters into recall pool. Next year they will update their recall with 30,000 additional patents. Over 1,500 devices have crapped out in the field so far (Largest failure of any company on record) yet the BSX reps and company just try to hide it under the rug while the poor patients sit with a time bomb.....

BSX: Clean up your act! These are patients! Quit worrying about your stock price.... You brag about longevity....you are a JOKE!

JAMEIS IS OUT FOR THE GAME!!!

Jimbo Fisher (FSU Head Coach) is a man of very high moral integrity. I cannot believe that it took so much public outrage that he finally benched Jameis for the entire game. Any other Head Coach of any other Major Program would have benched Jamies for a few games!

I am really hoping that Clemson wins tonight and FSU is totally out of the running the National Championship and Jameis is not even given any consideration for the Heisman.

What FSU needs to realize is that now there is a Playoff Selection Committee and I sincerely believe that the Committee will take this issue into consideration when selecting the 4 teams.

GSK's Letter Of Apology To Chinese

GSK's Letter Of Apology To Chinese

Updated: 9:41am UK, Friday 19 September 2014

GSK's statement of apology to the people of China:

Following a comprehensive investigation by the Chinese judicial authorities, GSK China Investment Co Ltd (GSKCI) has been identified according to Chinese law to have offered money or property to non-government personnel in order to obtain improper commercial gains, and has been found guilty of bribing non-government personnel.

GSK plc fully accepts the facts and evidence of the investigation, and the verdict of the Chinese judicial authorities.

Furthermore, GSK plc sincerely apologises to the Chinese patients, doctors and hospitals, and to the Chinese Government and the Chinese people.

GSK plc deeply regrets the damage caused.

GSK plc also apologises for the harm caused to individuals who were illegally investigated by GSKCI.

The illegal activities of GSKCI are a clear breach of GSK plc’s governance and compliance procedures; and are wholly contrary to the values and standards we expect from our employees.

It is deeply disappointing that these issues were not identified and addressed.

GSK plc has reflected deeply and learned from its mistakes, has taken steps to comprehensively rectify the issues identified at the operations of GSKCI, and must work hard to regain the trust of the Chinese people.

Today, GSK plc makes a further commitment to the Chinese government and people that GSKCI will take tangible actions to establish itself as a model for reform in China’s healthcare industry: by continuing to invest in China and supporting China's scientific development; and by further development of innovative new medicines and vaccines for diseases prevalent in China.

GSKCI will also increase access to its products in both city and rural areas of China through greater expansion of production and through price flexibility.

This long-term development strategy of GSK plc will promote the future health and well-being of the Chinese people, and positively contribute to China’s economic and social development.

Does SLS matter any more?

My manager wants me to apply for SLS during year end PC, but I'm not sure I see value in this. Does the company even care or respect the SLS members anymore? Back in the day when it was an award for career achievement it was a great thing (called Legion of Excellence), but not it's another way to humiliate us with behaviors and performance. Should I bother? Honest responses please

Trulicity-Lilly's QW is approved

Once weekly, smaller needle, no nodules and look at where it is indicated.

"The FDA said that the safety and efficacy of Trulicity, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, had been studied in 3,342 type 2 diabetics. The drug can be given as monotherapy or in combination with other diabetes drugs including metformin, sulfonylurea, thiazolidinediones, and prandial insulin"

Can be used with PRANDIAL INSULIN because it is known that QW GLP1's have more effect on fasting than PPG. Which is why BYD has no indication with basal and simply does not work for PPG. Lilly's indications for Trulicity will reinforce to physicians the limitations of BYD and how they have be misled to believe it is interchangeable with Byetta and Victoza.

Why is PBG pushing these mediocre products down our throat?

I thought we were all in this business to sell implants and grow surgical practices. So why are they pushing a seldom used mini (LOADI) implant to GPs who are too cheap to buy a torque wrench and a $100 box of spungs? Just okay to have in the catalog but far from a money maker or even practice builder. Management is suspect

Milton Packer congrats !

NVS clinical studies must pay handsomely !

98. Beth Levine and Milton Packer

$5,000,000

They are one of Dallas’ premier white-lab-coat-wearing power couples. Both are on the faculty at UT Southwestern, where Beth, 49, holds the Jay P. Sanford Professorship in Infectious Diseases, and Milton, 53, heads up the Center for Biostatistics and Clinical Science. Both have done extensive research on heart failure, and your heart just might stop if you’re ever invited to their 10,088-square-foot manor, which was built in 1934. The couple purchased the mansion in January 2004 from Randall and Cynthia Murphy (Randall founded the consulting firm Acclivus in 1976), and that put them on the list even though the value of the house itself was adjusted downward, from $3 million to $1.7 million. Still, after a hard day discussing ventricles, they can kick back and enjoy their six fireplaces, six baths (and three half baths!), and a wet bar. But only for medicinal purposes, we assume.

Stock buybacks not always a good idea

“The first half of 2014 has been the best start to the year ($338billion) since 2007 ($361 billion), the current record year for buyback authorizations and executions,” writes Birinyi analyst Rob Leiphart. “And since the bear market ended on March 9, 2009, the current quarter ($157 billion) is the third best (out of 22 quarters) during the current bull market.”

This matters because with fewer shares circulating after a buyback, earnings per share – a key metric in valuing stocks – are boosted even if net income declines. According to a recent study by Barclays, share buybacks are now responsible for about 2 percent of total earnings for the S&P 500. What’s more, companies that have the highest share repurchases have outperformed the rest of the market since mid-2008.

Gina Sanchez, founder of Chantico Global, pins share buybacks squarely on the shoulders of the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing program. She sees the S&P 500’s recent record highs as a byproduct of buybacks, not high levels of revenues.

“It is shocking that this continues,” said Sanchez about buybacks. “What we have seen is continued evidence that all of this monetary expansion has found its way into earnings – [into] everything except for real demand and sales.”

Labeling earnings over the past five or six years as “just OK,” Sanchez said net income has only recently started to pick up. However, she believes investors have been buying into momentum over the past few years.
