MSBU Reps hate to burst your bubble...

But the joke is on you. And there is nothing funny about it. About me I am in HQ, and I don't mean EH but Basel. I am at a level where I deal with many parts of the MSBU cogwheel. So you may decide to take my advice with a grain of salt and most of you will call BS. Honestly I don't care but even if I change one or two people's view and see the light then I made a difference. By the way yes we do read these boards from time to time and your HR does most of the time.

The bottom line is that you get very little access to Neurologists. That is a fact. We know that. You brag about it. And our consultants keep hammering that. The reason? After about 6 months of a product launch the MS KOL's pretty much will know all the ins and outs of the drug. Many, who participated in research, will have already known about it and you are DOR.

The only difference is if they are a speaker, then they will talk to you because they are financially incentivized to do so. Make no mistake about it. So that leaves the rest of Neuros who will seldom give you quality time. Lunches do not count. Be honest with yourself. Please. How much quality time do you Consistently get with Neuros and how much value do you really bring?

So what about Ocrelizumab and Daclizumab etc? Yes Genetech is going to be hiring and AbbVie/Biogen will launch Daclizumab. And to burst your bubble even more I know people in a similar role, as mine, at these companies. And I do not mean know them as in online via LinkedIn, but have actually met with them personally and broken bread with them over dinners, lunches at various events.

They will hire nurses and managers with a scientific background and a "few" managed care reps. Not MS reps as we know it. You heard it here first. The reason? Yup. Because Neuro's do not have time to waste with you, a BA/BS/MBA trained sales rep when they are in a crowded DMT marketplace and already know the product. So these companies will not be hiring the typical rep unless of course he/she is clinically trained. Those are the facts.

So my advice? I would say you can either try to work at HQ in some capacity, to gain yourself some real skills and become more marketable or if you want to stay in sales go into a growing field like genetics or healthcare software. Those reps are not micromanaged and make 150K to 250K without having to worry about managed care or SRF's.
