DS Device Direct in Spine....already happening

Item of interest from Novation's Spring OrthoWatch publication. The publication includes a description on page 7 of DePuy Synthes Device Direct program. The program’s focus is one to three level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion and one to two lumbar procedures. The Pulse cervical plate, Pulse cervical cages and MTF’s ACF cervical allograft spacers are included in the program. Pulse is based on the Skyline plate. The program includes sterile-packaged implants which eliminate preoperative and postoperative processing and delivery costs. Consignment inventory is available. Instruments sets in the progam have been streamlined to six instruments and these sets are sold to the hospital with an estimated pay off within six months. The business model is not rep-less but a step toward the hospital regaining O.R. control. The model was developed with input from VHA hospitals and attempts to balance implant cost savings with on-demand sales support. DePuy Synthes will work with hospitals to determine par levels, appropriate product mix and sales support without any volume commitments.
