It's one thing to run a tight ship and control costs, it's another to nickel and dime the very people who bring in all the sales so the mighty stockholder can be happy. Valeant will lose the one thing every company claims is it's most valuable asset, a quality work force and people who are emotionally tied to the company. Looking for honest feedback please. I am looking at a RAM position. The company keeps talking about the money. BESIDES the money, what are some of the other positives about this company? I see that in a rural territory, I will spin my wheels to find that one patient, and then they will go to a teaching institution elsewhere, and I won't get the credit for the drug. IF, or when they come back for follow up therapy, the local dr may d/c as they are not familiar with disease state or drug. Then I don't get any credit AT ALL. I understand that this is saving patients lives. I get that. What happens if I don't find any patients for a quarter or even two quarters? Do you end up with no job, or on an improvement plan? I am told that there is a lot of communication with the manager. Is this daily, weekly, or after every call. That could make me crazy. Thanks

Wallstreet Journal article says Toujeo does not have a chance.
This article does not shed a positive light on Toujeo. The PI killed Toujeo. Read the last sentence of the article. It says Toujeo does not have a chance. Look at the stock price. It keeps dropping.
Here are a couple paragraphs from the article:
The label “surprisingly contained no mention of clinical benefits,” writes Sanford Bernstein analyst Ronny Gal in an investor note. “The lower rates of [blood sugar levels at night] do not seem to be mentioned in the label anywhere and even in terms of efficacy, all the label shows is non-inferiority of Toujeo to Lantus. Toujeo now seems simply a more concentrated form of Lantus – a modest convenience benefit for patients requiring a high dosage of the drug.”
This robs Sanofi of a selling point with physicians and payers. After all, if the clinical profile of both insulin products is similar, the drug maker may have a difficult time convincing doctors to switch patients to the newer treatment. “No physician wants to change a patient who is already doing well on a therapy,” David Kliff of Diabetic Investor tells us.
This suggests that Sanofi will have to focus on a more select group of patients – those who are not yet being treated with Lantus, according to analysts. “The primary battle ground will be with ‘new patient starts’ and this is only a smaller bucket of patients that grows over time,” Tim Anderson, another Sanford Bernstein analyst, writes in his own investor note.

My honest opinion of Salix
I thought I'd write something positive on this site. It'll probably be akin to pissing in the wind, but I'm tired of seeing nothing but negative crap on this board.
First, I work in the corporate headquarters and while I'm not an old timer I've been here for a while. I'm not a high level manager or anyone important, just a worker bee. I've watched the company go from a small pharma company with a few hundred people to where we are today, selling for over $10 billion. That has taken an enormous amount of work and a good bit of personal sacrifice on a lot of employees to make that happen.
There are a ton of great people at Salix and I hate for others to read this board and think that Salix is a shit hole. It's not, the bitching on this board does not reflect most opinions in the office. It can be difficult at times but it has been extremely rewarding, not just monetarily but in seeing what has been built. The company has grown at a rapid pace, especially over the last few years, and it is all due to the great people here. While mistakes have been made I feel like senior management and the board have done an excellent job growing the company and building a strong work environment. I know a lot of people in the company read this site and I don't want the mindless bitching and drivel on here to be the overwhelming theme of our company.
At this point, no matter if Valeant keeps us or we get severance and move on, I'm proud of my work here and the people I've worked with. I am also very appreciative that our senior management has taken steps to make sure that we don't get screwed out of severance or any other benefits during this acquisition. I'm sure they put a lot of work into this deal to try to make everyone happy in the end. The fact that we even have the potential for this severance (in addition to all the other payouts we'll be getting) is proof that this company was built around it's employees. You sure as hell won't get that from most companies, you'd be lucky to get more than a couple weeks if you get severance at all.
That's all I wanted to say, you all can go back to your drunken posting and bitching about random stupid things now.

Does Valeant pay for relocation upon promotion? I would be very interested in any positions in the home office as I am an avid hunter and outdoorsman. I would be interested in marketing or operation roles (one day I hope to be a VP of sales).
1. When promoted to home office do you work on a temporary visa or would I just become a citizen of Canada? I totally be open to being a citizen if they sponsor this!
2. Does Valeant allow facial hair? Salix didn't allow beards but they are becoming very trendy and I think it would allow me to fit in more if I did get moved to Canada?
3. If you are relocated to Canada do they pay you in Canadian dollars or US dollar?
4. Do they offer housing stipends or other perks (corporate hockey game tickets etc.) when relocated?
5. Is sales training located in the Canadian home office or the US home office? I have experience as a field trainer at Salix and that is another roll I would like to get back to.

Unethical Reps
I was shocked to find out this company has no problem hiring reps with zero ethics. Just learned that a rep in my area with the worst reputation for doing all things wrong as an area manager. Is Avanir that hard up or an unethical company? This guy has been fired from at least 4 pharma companies for ethics violations - he breaks all the rules and was most recently caught giving Docs gift cards for writing the product he was promoting. Apparently background checks are something done or done well before offers are made or this guy would never have gotten hired. His resume is 90% greatly exaggerated half truths, which of course you have to do when you've been fired from every company you've worked for. Anyway, if this is the type of person Avanir chooses to have represent them I hope Otsuke lays off the sales force and replaces them with decent reps

Feel like it's time to talk seriously about going 1099/distributorship model. The numbers below need some input, so please feel free to add to, or replace my methodology. Here we go....
According to people I've heard talk about it, the Exogen unit costs around $45 - $120. Taking the average we come up with $45 + $120 = $165/2 = best case guess of $82.50 for an Exogen unit. Average reimbursement is $2,900 which is $2,817.50 of gross profit per unit. (Or another way of looking at it is a percentage increase of 3415.151%)
How much does it cost to sell one unit? (Net profit)
There are fixed variables involved outside of the sales department which include things like internal reimbursement and patient assist, along with customer service, shipping, etc. I think you get the point. What percentage of the gross profit represents the "cost of goods sold" outside of the sales force? Not sure, however, we can focus on the sales force to perhaps better understand how Bioventus and EW are literally throwing millions of dollars away annually by continuing the current sales model. Below is my "best guess" as to the expenditures that correlate to us, the sales department.
Average sales base salaries: 250 sales people x $65,000 per year =$16,250,000
Car $550 per month x 12 months =$6,600 x 250 reps = $1,650,000
Employer contribution to Heath Insurance = ???
Employer contribution to 401k = ???
Expense account/phone, fax, marketing, etc. (pure guess here...$300 per month per rep?? $300 x 250 reps = $75,000 x 12 months =$900,000
Fuel expense $50 per week x52 weeks =$2,600 x 250 sales people = $650,000
Commissions paid out annually= ???
Payroll taxes on 250 sales people annually=???
Dos salary of 20? X $150,000 = $3,000,000
Dos car allowance of 20? X $550 per month = $11,000 x 12 months = $132,000

Total expenditure for US sales force AT A MINIMUM is $21,932,000. This does not include commissions, insurance, payroll taxes, or 401k contributions that the employer pays out of their own coffers. Hypothetically speaking, the number may well be closer to $40,000,000 (or greater).
So......EW....you guys want to save between $20-$40 million per year? Make us 1099.
No more Heath insurance. No more car allowance. No base salaries, 401k contributions, and no payroll taxes to deal with. As Bob Dylan once pontificated..."The times they are a changing." This is no longer the SN company that it once was. Healthcare has changed, the industry has evolved, and perhaps the greatest, or smartest move SN ever made was to sell this division and let someone else take the risk while comfortably riding in the back seat with their 49% stake.
So what's in it for us? (Your humble and loyal sales force.)

So what is fair? What is equitable for a salesperson giving up their base, their car allowance, 401k, et al.?

(If you are a salesperson, grab a calculator and take 30% of what your gross sales were last year to see how much better off your life would be under my plan.) The breakdown works quite simply...33% of that 30 will have to go to our taxes. We have to pay for our own Social Security and Medicare taxes. (Don't worry guys, we can write off expenses like mileage at an average of $.50 per mile. Not to mention you can write off anything from a stapler to your home office... see a good CPA.)
10% of the 30% is set aside for inventory. I don't expect BV to give us this product for free. That leaves roughly 10% of pure profit for each salesperson after all expenses are met.

Researched the Publicis home page and viewed the video libraries and was impressed with their desire to hire experienced, successful folks from pharma because they "walked in the shoes" of the client and understand, can deliver the quality they expect.
Pursued an open DM position in my state and fully expected and was OK with a significant salary reduction. For those who are currently on the Retiree Insurance benefit, could you give your point of view on retaining the company benefit?
At this point, I find it expensive but also not superior in coverage. After 32+ years with the company of working and having this benefit, The administrators of the corporate retiree plan suggest that once you leave it, you cannot ever get back in to it. Therefore, that sounds ominous not encouraging! However, am wondering if the benefit is as beneficial anymore. Seems like there are other, less expensive options that serve the same coverage.
I know there may be snarky comments from some " anonymous" posters about this post, but am sincerely wondering if those who buy into the company's "superior" coverage have found other insurance coverage that is more competitive in today's healthcare market?

After seeing the results of the first month's data, I cannot believe that a newbie is probably going to win a spot to Italy. I worked my ass off , looking on the outside of the top 10 by a few TRX and Iroko is going to award this amazing trip to a newbie who is barely increasing his TRX.

First off, The department hides vital information from the sales staff regarding developments and changes and twists compensation to set up reps to fail. You know something is off when a team spends time day after day making fun of sales reps and things they do. I believe this is secretly tearing the team apart. Most would agree leadership is a joke. Rose Marie is the most hated executive in Stryker and I mean who enjoys ripping on their own employees so they feel like shit, but her. I mean this is a woman who would rather eat alone then with her subordinates, she really thinks she is better than everyone. It is quite sad. Then you have Emily with her resting B***h face, thinks she smarter than anyone and believes she has pull because her husband is a successful sales rep. Would not be surprised if that is why she got the position. I believe I could be a much better manager than she is. I mean even my manager is ridiculous. The guy enjoys cracking unprofessional and ethically questionable jokes that would probably get anyone fired if heard aloud. And the rubber band shooting? Grow up. If I had it my way this department would be completely different. It would be definitely more down to earth and ideas would be more free flowing. I ask this question because sales reps are notorious for gossiping about physicians in the field. Some good gossip and some bad. Mostly funny stories about their interactions with their physician customers. I was just wondering if doctors do the same thing when you have social interactions with one another? Do you find that those in your profession gossip about individual sales reps or tells funny stories about their interactions with reps? I've often wondered if the door swings in both directions?

Managers are stressed to the max and taking it out on the reps making everyone miserable when we should be upbeat and excited about a new product. I would like to get out with some compensation. Is Merck still willing to entertain a hand-raise from primary care, especially in 3 up territories? I know they accepted hand-raisers after the time limited expired to do so. I also know they gave additional people hand-raising ability after the new configurations in July. Is this still a viable option?

Mylan insiders sold $118 million in stock last month, thanks to the company deciding to accelerate stock options and compensation awards "in the best interest of the shareholders." To be more specific, the Executive Chairman sold $50 million!! The CEO sold approx $21 million! The President sold $15M! The President of North America sold $2Million! The board members all sold between $2M and as much as $7million for Dr. Maroon!
If you remember, back in December, they accelerated large parts of their compensation packages, including these stock options to vest in advance of the "new" company, located outside of the US to avoid paying taxes to the United States of America. According to insiders, this was done in an effort to "save shareholders" the burden of reimbursing insiders with transaction-related excise tax penalties associated with transitioning the compensation packages as-is, to the "new company."
Don't you think that it was a BIG assumption that these shares all would have vested, eventually? How do they know that all of these Executives would still have been at the company when these options were going to vest?
This has been described as "piggish" behavior by various investment sites. I'm not suggesting that they did anything illegal. I just wonder how that makes you feel, as a sales rep, scratching and clawing to hit your numbers, so that these "leaders" can do what's in their best interest. Do they make these kinds of assumptions when determining whether you should make a bonus?
Think about it when you get in your car for the 9,000th time to go out and push EpiPen to doctors who already know more about EpiPen than you could hope for (because of all of your hard work.) Think about the fact that without you, they could not pay themselves $50Million in one transaction! That doesn't even count base salary, bonus, other stock, personal use of the company jet, etc. Keep up the selling!!! I wonder what will happen when Teva comes out with a generic version of EpiPen mid summer?? I'm sure they'll keep you on the pay roll.

(Reuters) - CVS Health Corp aims to control costs for a class of new cholesterol-fighting drugs by instituting strict prior authorization and other controls, according to the company, which negotiates drug prices for 65 million people through its pharmacy benefit manager unit.
Troyen Brennan, chief medical officer at CVS, warned in a blog post this week that the new injectable cholesterol treatments, called PCSK9 inhibitors, could be prescribed for as many as 15 million Americans, at an annual cost of $7,000 to $12,000 per patient.
CVS aims to limit initial utilization of the new drugs, which would be used for a lifetime. "We think the overall prevalence of therapy with this can be kept relatively low if there is appropriate utilization management put in place," he told Reuters on Wednesday.
He noted that such restrictions helped limit spending on Gilead Sciences Inc's $1,000 hepatitis C pill after it was launched in late 2013.
CVS, and other large payers like Express Scripts Holding Co, campaigned throughout 2014 against the high price of Gilead's drug. Competition emerged late last year when regulators approved a new hepatitis C treatment from AbbVie Inc and Gilead recently acknowledged it is discounting its prices by nearly 50 percent to secure market share.
Brennan expects a similar outcome for PCSK9 drugs. Amgen Inc and a partnership of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc and Sanofi SA have each filed for U.S. regulatory approval of rival PCSK9 inhibitors. Pfizer Inc is also developing a drug in the same class.
"We expect there will be competition between various similar medications when they come out," Brennan said.
None of the PCSK9 drugs have been approved, and their usage labels are unknown, but Brennan said they will likely be approved for patients who are genetically prone to extreme high cholesterol and people whose cholesterol is not adequately controlled with statins, an older class of pills. He said approval is also being sought for use of PCSK9 inhibitors in a larger population of people who cannot tolerate statins.
"We will require laboratory testing to assure that these are appropriate medications for the patient," he said. Diagnostics would include genetic testing, measuring levels of LDL, or bad, cholesterol in the blood and testing people who cannot tolerate statins for muscle and liver enzymes to understand whether that intolerance is based on biochemical problems caused by existing medications.
He said that, over time, if studies can demonstrate that the new drugs reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke, usage could be widened.

He noted that such restrictions helped limit spending on Gilead Sciences Inc's $1,000 hepatitis C pill after it was launched in late 2013.
CVS, and other large payers like Express Scripts Holding Co, campaigned throughout 2014 against the high price of Gilead's drug. Competition emerged late last year when regulators approved a new hepatitis C treatment from AbbVie Inc and Gilead recently acknowledged it is discounting its prices by nearly 50 percent to secure market share.
Brennan expects a similar outcome for PCSK9 drugs. Amgen Inc and a partnership of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc and Sanofi SA have each filed for U.S. regulatory approval of rival PCSK9 inhibitors. Pfizer Inc is also developing a drug in the same class.
"We expect there will be competition between various similar medications when they come out," Brennan said.
None of the PCSK9 drugs have been approved, and their usage labels are unknown, but Brennan said they will likely be approved for patients who are genetically prone to extreme high cholesterol and people whose cholesterol is not adequately controlled with statins, an older class of pills. He said approval is also being sought for use of PCSK9 inhibitors in a larger population of people who cannot tolerate statins.
"We will require laboratory testing to assure that these are appropriate medications for the patient," he said. Diagnostics would include genetic testing, measuring levels of LDL, or bad, cholesterol in the blood and testing people who cannot tolerate statins for muscle and liver enzymes to understand whether that intolerance is based on biochemical problems caused by existing medications.
He said that, over time, if studies can demonstrate that the new drugs reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke, usage could be widened.

So as a former saleswoman I loved allergan. But I was let go. I was the rep stuck wondering what to do next and I came to this site just to hang out and complain like a little girl. I found a job a year later with the government making 75k but I'm building and pension and have great health insurance.
I always wanted to know what other jobs people who where let go transitioned to outside of pharma. What companies, industries and pay scale worked for them. I was clueless where to look for work where my skills translated. I'm happy now but can we help each other here and post some ideas here to help each other out.

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – About 5 percent of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Ridgefield workforce will be laid off in the near future, the News Times website reported.
A spokesperson for the pharmaceutical company, which employs about 1,800 people in its Ridgefield office on the Danbury border, said part of the reason behind the imminent layoffs is a decrease of revenue from prescription medication sales, according to the News Times website.
The spokesperson said Boehringer Ingelheim is keeping the number of layoffs as low as possible and will help displaced workers find other positions within the company, the News Times website reported.

Abbvie dealt a hand that was not as good as what Gilead had. Period! No amount of groveling is going to change that. Abbvie better stick to professionalism and asking for what we can win on and NOT annoying the crap out of providers and clinics to write for VPak when 9/10 times they prefer Harvoni and will write a medical exception to get what they want. No need for HSE's or AE's in this division....Gilead already providing wonderful programs for screening etc. a lot of overpaid people that cannot do much...and if they do ....they're only helping our competitor? Make changes Abbvie - starting from the top down. The fat lady is coming onto the stage to sing her final tune. Get ready!
